Retacy's Bold King

Bruce and I Brought Angus home with us from the UK in 1996. Angus was supposed to be the new foundation stud for my breeding program. He was an awesome dog. Everyone that met him loved him. He was very well socialized, he played AYSO soccer with both of my boys and was the best goalie for both teams for 2 seasons, he loved the beach, balls, playing with the hose, agility and the girls. When he turned 2 he began having awful sneezing attacks. Well living in the country, I knew what this was from, it was a fox tail! I took him to my vet, who after examining him looked up his nose and saw nothing, but flushed his nostrils and gave him some steroid drops and said give it a week to 10 days and if it is not any better bring him back. Well, I said ok, ok whatever, expecting all to be fine. Well the week came and went and the 10 days too, and the attacks were so violent he was hitting his face on the ground as he sneezed. So I brought Angus back in to a different vet and they flushed it again and tried different steroid and antibiotic. Told me again to wait a week to 10 days and see how he does. By this time I was convinced the foxtail was embedded somewhere in his nasal cavity and they just could not see it. So I took him into my vet again and they ran a tube in and out of all they could and flushed and flushed and couldn't see or feel anything with all the probing. I was still pretty sure it was something in his nose. I took him to the local Emergency Veterinary Clinic so they could sedate him and do a thorough job and get whatever was in there irritating my boy out! So before sedation they like to x-ray the lungs to be sure that he is safe to be sedated. Mind you, I am expecting him to come out and we would set an appointment to sedate and remove the problem. Well the vet came out and said her had nasal cancer that had metastasized throughout his lungs. The x-ray was horrifying. The vet told us he had about 6 weeks left to spend with us on this earth. We asked what we could do to help him, how will we know when it is time, how does this happen to such a young dog. Basically he gave him some pain meds and told us that yams and sweet potatoes were good antioxidants, that this was by far the worst case in the youngest dog he had ever seen, and that he would let us know when it was time. The vet was right, Angus had 6 weeks with us, we spoiled him to death. Went to all his favorite places and spent every single moment with him. I won't get into the gory details of the disease, but when the time came, he let us know and we had our vet come out and go to sleep in our arms on the couch, in the house, on the ranch where he spent his life. Well, as I mentioned before, Angus went all over with us, beach, soccer games, parks, I truly believe that his cancer began from him having his nose in the AC vents in the car.  I cannot prove it, I have other people that have the same idea. So if you are reading this, please don't let your dog breath in the AC fumes through the AC vents. CairnShire was born in the sadness of losing Angus, Retacy's Bold King
